Tohoku

Tohoku area is composed of 6 prefectures (Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Miyagi, Yamagata, Fukushima). Each one possesses the nature gift and onsen. Three famous festivals of Tohoku area are held in the summer: Aomori Nebuta Festival, Akita Kanto Festival and Sendai Tanabata Festival.
To take a good trip around the vast Tohoku area, decide first a city as the origin of this trip.
You can take railway or bus to move between cities. While visiting the local spots, it is more convenient to take a taxi or rent a car.

Nagoya

Higashi-Kishu

Pilgrimage Kumano Kodo has been listed in world heritage. In Magose-toge Pass, the well-known most beautiful slate lane in Kumano Kodo Iseji runs in the charming Owase Hinoki woods.
Along the way there are historical spots like Yonakijizo where you can truly experience the Kumano Kodo. What's more, natural scenes like Onigajo, Shichirimihama, Maruyama Senmaida are also attractive. If you come from Nagoya, other than the Limited Express Wideview Nanki, the regular highway bus from Nagoya to Nanki is also convenient.

Osaka

Other than first class theme park Universal Studios Japan, Kansai area has charming tourist spots like Osaka Castle and Dotonbori. If you want to wander and feed yourself at Osaka the Kuidaore no Machi (City where you eat too much to stand up again), you must not miss the snacks alongside the road. With metro and Osaka Loop Line covering almost the whole urban area, Osaka is equipped with a convenient intracity traffic system which enables you to go to anywhere easily. What's more, water bus is also popular in Osaka city. There are also convenient ways to get to main cities in neighboring Kansai area.

Kyoto

Kyoto is an old city with long history in Japan. There are remains of ancient streets and many old shrines and temples. The cultural treasure of Kyoto has been listed in World cultural heritage by UNESCO.
The main spots are around the Kyoto station, so it is convenient to take metro or bus.
To avoid the traffic jam, if the spot is not far away, you may walk along the ancient streets to the destination.

San'in

San'in area composed of Tottori prefecture and Shimane prefecture is full of charm.
Charming tourist spots wait for your visit, including world heritage Iwami Ginzan, Japan's biggest Tottori Sand Dunes, Tsuwano namely the Little Kyoto of San'in, and Izumo-taisha shrine famous for its benefits to marriage.
To move between cities, you can take either railway or highway bus. As for going to tourist spots, it is convenient to take railway or public bus.

Shikoku

Shikoku area is composed of 4 prefectures:Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime and Kochi. It is warm, comfortable and full of nature treasures.
Various tourist spots and events attract visitors to come, Like o-henro (pilgrimage) — visit the 88 sacred temples all over Shikoku area, and Awa Dance from Tokushima prefecture, and Yosakoi Festival from Kochi prefecture.
You'd better choose railway or highway bus to move between cities, and take bus or taxi to get to the tourist spots.

Setouchi

In this area, other than railway and bus, there are plenty of ferry lines. Please do take a visit to the many islands in Seto Inland Sea.
